The State of Idaho

Idaho is the perfect state for enjoying beautiful landscapes, mountains, natural wonders, wildlife, and outdoor activities that will transport you immediately into a state of joy and calm. Idaho is located in the northwestern zone of the U.S., and its capital, Boise, is known for being set among the Rocky Mountain hills and the Boise River. There’s so much to see here; let’s explore some of the best things to do and learn about this wonderful state.

Farmers Markets

Idaho is one of the country’s export leaders in fresh vegetables and dairy products. You can taste delicious local fresh food at many different restaurants, as well as wander around the farmers' markets that can be found across the state. Fresh food, baked goods, and locally raised meats are among the products available for you to taste. And if you enjoy wine and beer, don’t miss visiting award-winning local wineries and breweries. You’ll get to taste the best local wine and beer!

Top Tourist Attractions

  • Lava Hot Springs

These extraordinary natural hot springs are located two and a half hours from Salt Lake City, four hours from Boise, and an hour and fifteen minutes from Idaho Falls. Over 2.5 million gallons of hot mineral water flow through the pools, a popular family vacation spot, especially in the summer. You can book different types of rooms, campsites, and other vacation rentals. We definitely recommend you make a reservation at the Portneuf Bar and Grille in the Riverside Hot Springs Inn. You will try delicious local ingredients and the best of Idaho wines.

  • Museums & Galleries

Idaho has multiple history museums and art galleries across the state. You will learn and visit places such as the Potato Museum or the Old Idaho Penitentiary, which was the facility that housed some of the west’s most notorious criminals.

And if you are a Marvel lover, then discover the Marvel art pieces at the Sun Valley Museum of Art, or learn and walk around the rarest fighter airplanes at the Warhawk Air Museum. Did you know that the first TV was invented in Idaho? You can learn about its history at the Farnsworth TV & Pioneer Museum. Don’t miss the world’s only Museum of Clean and the largest potato chip at the Idaho Potato Museum.

Transportation

Transportation in Idaho is quite simple. If you opt for public transportation, then you can take taxis in the state’s main cities, such as Boise, Idaho Falls, Moscow, and Pocatello. There’s also the option of buses, although they are not very common in the cities. For tourists who like to travel long distances, the Greyhound bus is a great alternative, which covers the entire state with its main entry points at Boise and Idaho Falls. Tickets are affordable, and seats are reasonably comfortable as well.

But if you’re looking for private transportation, then renting a car is the best option. You can find the major car rental companies at Boise Airport and in main resort towns like Sandpoint, Coeur d’Alene, and Ketchum. Big car-renting companies are available there, and you can rather rent a normal vehicle or an SUV. However, if you’re staying for a long time period, we recommend bringing your own car. If you’re not willing to drive to Idaho, you may want to consider car shipping with an auto-transport company.
